Be still my heart!
It’s been since 2011, when I studied abroad in college, since I have been back to Paris. Needless to say I was jumping around my condo with excitement when scheduling told me I was going to Paris! Sadly our flight was 4 hours delayed, so my 24 hour layover in Paris was shortened to around 18 hours, but I still made the most of it!
Once we got to our hotel in Paris, I went right out to see the Eiffel Tower. Clearly I wasn’t into taking beautiful photos back in 2011, so I needed an updated photos with Her.
Pro tip on how to get photos during solo travels : People watch and find a likeminded person you trust to take your photo!
This view of the Eiffel Tower is from the Trocadero. Literally signs will point you straight towards it; if you see the merry-go-round, look up and you will see the stairs that take you to this view. I noticed 2 girls taking photos of each other and she had a DSLR camera like mine, so I knew she would most likely know how to frame a good photo and operate my camera. The girls didn’t speak much English, but they knew what I was asking and they were more than willing. One girl was like, “here, take my hat for a prop” and posing me and I returned the favor for them! Even if you are using an iPhone for your photos, this is totally do-able if you seek out the right people.
From here, my plan was to walk up the Champs–Élysées towards the Arc de Triomphe. I got a little lost and my feet were killing from the blisters, but the golden hour was so worth it!!
I typically don’t do sit down dinners on quick layovers like this because I like to explore and see as much as possible in the short amount of time I have, so dinner was a baguette that I thoroughly enjoyed on the metro like a true tourist [oops]. Of course the day ended with a quick stop at the Monoprix and grocery store to pick up some French Rosé to enjoy back home!
Can’t wait to share with y’all day two in Paris, that consisted of a photo shoot with my new favorite Paris photographer, Katie Donnelly !!! Stay tuned!
